The chaotic show began with host Whoopi Goldberg not making it into the studio for the what would have been Harris' first in-studio interview since taking office after her co-host Joy Behar revealed, "Sciatica has whipped her out."
The show went on its first commercial break and then came back to producers asking co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro to leave their seats, without explanation.
Behar asked producers if she could introduce the Vice President only for the show to go back to break. When they returned, Behar announced both Hostin and Navarro tested positive for COVID-19.
"No matter how hard we try, these things happen," Behar said. "They probably had a breakthrough case and they'll be okay I'm sure, because they're both vaccinated ... And the vice president is being prepped for her arrival. They cleaned the table, they washed the hands. Everybody is getting all cleaned up and she'll be out here in a second."
But, Vice President Harris did the interview remotely, with producers sharing, "to be as safe as humanly possible."
Harris eventually appeared from her remote location, commenting on vaccinations and the ongoing threat of COVID-19.
"Sunny and Ana are strong women and I know they're fine," Harris said. "But it really also does speak to the fact that they're vaccinated, and vaccines make all the difference because otherwise we would be concerned about hospitalizations and worse."
