Miami native Armando Christian Perez, better known as the rapper Pitbull, has signed on to help save Palm Beach International Raceway.
The track off the Beeline Highway in Jupiter was built in 1964, but is being considered for demolition to make way for a distribution warehouse.
Perez calls it a "true honor and an amazing opportunity to help in this important effort to save Palm Beach International Raceway." He and several others want to transform the track into what they call a first-class facility for the entire community to enjoy.
The plans call for it to host race events charitable events and live entertainment.
Former Indy 500 champion and Palm Beach Gardens resident Danny Sullivan represents a group who offered $55 million to keep the land as a racing facility. He says it could boost the local economy and provide more than 150 seasonal and year-round jobs.
A petition has been launched for people to sign, in support of the proposal.
