Miramar, FL - Police have arrested two parents after their children were found hungry and dirty inside a car in South Florida.
45-year-old George Daniel Detezanos and 35-year-old Ciara Michelle Detezanos, of Margate, face charges of child neglect, child neglect without bodily harm, cruelty toward a child and child abuse without great bodily harm.
On Monday, a Miramar police officer responded to a Chevron gas station to a 911 call that a heavy-set man with no shirt on was threatening to jump in the bed of a truck if the driver drove away.
A gas station employee confirmed to officers that Detezanos was causing a disturbance.
When officers spoke with them, Detezanos and his wife had slurred speech and could not hold their balance.
Investigators say that Ciara Detezanos told officers she had bought and used cocaine, but believed the drug was actually fentanyl.
The officers found three children sitting in the back seat of the Detezanos' car with multiple pill bottles within arms reach.
The arrest report states the children "all looked dirty as if they haven’t showered in a couple of days" and that each child said they were hungry and couldn’t remember the last time they ate.
One child told officers he last showered five days ago, and another said he had not slept in a day.
Two other children told officers they had slept in the car.
Police said the Ciara was also “seen cutting the same pancakes for over 30 minutes and falling asleep while cutting them.”
Investigators discovered the mother had a no contact order with her children and had previously been arrested in Pasco County for kidnapping.
It’s unclear if the children are with relatives or in the custody of CPIS.
