End May Be Near For Miami Seaquarium

The days may be numbered for a once-popular South Florida family-attraction. Miami-Dade County is looking to terminate its lease with the Miami Seaquarium due to alleged continual violations.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, in a Jan. 21 letter to Eduardo Albor, the president of park operator The Dolphin Company - cites "multiple and repeated" animal welfare violations found by the United States Department of Agriculture during a routine inspection last November. The county, with the USDA, also intends to confiscate four animals.

Late last year, killer whale Lolita and dolphin Sundance died from illness.
