The Indian River County Sheriff's Office warns about a scam involving people pretending to be employees of the agency who are contacting victims, falsely claiming there are warrants issued to arrest them for fraudulently claiming Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.
The scammers demand payment and demand credit card details or gift cards.
The Sheriff's Office says that in some cases they go as far as sending fake arrest warrant documents to make their claims seem legitimate.
Officials are urging residents to remember that legitimate law enforcement agencies will never ask for money over the phone.
