Miami, FL - A routine morning at a Little Havana grocery store turned violent Wednesday after a suspected shoplifter allegedly attacked store employees with a machete.
According to Miami police, the incident unfolded around 10:40 a.m. at the Sedano’s Supermarket located on West Flagler Street near 13th Avenue.
Authorities say a man suspected of shoplifting was confronted by a security guard inside the store.
The situation escalated into a physical struggle, during which the suspect allegedly pulled out a machete and slashed the guard multiple times.
According to the arrest report, the security guard sustained injuries to his back and arms.
As the altercation continued, a store manager attempted to intervene but was reportedly struck by the suspect and knocked unconscious.
Police say the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was quickly stopped by two witnesses who held him until officers arrived.
Miami Fire Rescue responded to the scene.
The injured guard was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
The store manager was treated on-site for his injuries and did not require hospitalization.
The suspect, identified as Yuris Jimenez-Linares, was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges.
Police have not yet confirmed the specific charges as the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have not released the names of the injured employees.
Miami police are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
The machete used in the alleged attack has been recovered by police.
