Pembroke Pines, FL - Two students were arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly bringing concealed weapons onto the campus of Renaissance Charter School in Pembroke Pines.
According to the Pembroke Pines Police Department, school officials were alerted when a student noticed a peer carrying a keychain that appeared to include a hidden weapon.
Upon investigation, officers recovered a variety of self-defense-style tools, including a pocketknife disguised as a key, a pair of metallic brass knuckles, a kubotan-style weapon, and other personal protection devices.
One of the items resembled lipstick but may have been intended to conceal a stun gun or pepper spray.
Officials confirmed that neither student made any verbal threats toward classmates, staff, or the school itself.
Law enforcement emphasized that there was no ongoing danger to students or faculty during or after the incident.
The arrested students, both minors, have not been publicly identified.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Pembroke Pines Police posted a photo showing some of the seized items.
The department assured the community that safety protocols were promptly followed, and the situation was handled without disruption to the school day.
The school also reminded parents and students that bringing weapons of any kind onto campus is strictly prohibited, regardless of intent.
The incident comes amid growing attention to student safety in Broward County, where similar incidents have recently occurred.
Police say the investigation is ongoing to determine why the students allegedly brought the weapons to school in the first place.
