Removing an abandoned boat is one thing, but getting rid of a derelict submarine is something entirely different.
Monroe County officials and a marine contractor today removed a nearly 100-foot sub from the waters near Marathon.

“Derelict vessels, whether a small skiff or a massive submarine, pose serious threats to the environment, boater safety, and navigation,” said Senior Administrator for Marine Resources Brittany Burtner. “Removing this submarine is not only a win for our waterways, but also a reminder of the importance of prevention.”
So far this year 134 derelict vessels have been removed from the waters off the Florida Keys.
