Cape Coral, FL - A Cape Coral man allegedly helped stop a burglary in progress after being alerted by his home security system early Wednesday.

Kyle Myvett told police he had gone to bed when his security cameras showed someone allegedly breaking into his vehicle.

Still dressed in Batman pajamas, Myvett went outside to investigate and discovered a suspect rifling through his truck.

He pursued the individual into a neighbor’s garage, where he confronted and held him until officers arrived.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Jystin Schimpl, was found with several items allegedly taken from the vehicle, including cash, a woman’s wristlet, two Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at around $300 each, and more than $500 in gift cards.

Police confirmed that the items were recovered at the scene.

Schimpl was arrested and booked into the Lee County Jail on charges including burglary and petty theft.

The Cape Coral Police Department reported that the homeowner’s prompt action helped prevent further theft and ensured the suspect was detained safely.

After the incident, Myvett posed for a photo with officers while still wearing his Batman pajamas.

Authorities noted the case highlights the usefulness of home security systems and the role residents can play in reporting and responding to suspicious activity.

The police department emphasized that swift action and community vigilance were key in resolving the situation without further incident.

The suspect remains in custody pending legal proceedings.
