Miami, FL - A Miami woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly hit a 72-year-old woman in front of a police officer on Saturday evening in Little Havana.
Marina Navarrete, 63, was reportedly at the location to retrieve stolen shoes just before 8 p.m. when the incident occurred.
According to the Miami Police Department arrest report, Navarrete allegedly approached an officer and asked in Spanish how much her bond would be if she “smacked” the victim.
Police said she then walked over to the 72-year-old woman and allegedly struck her in the face.
The officer immediately arrested Navarrete on a charge of aggravated battery on a person 65 or older, a first-degree felony.
Jail records show that Navarrete’s bond was set at $1,000.
However, she remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday because she was already out on bond for previous charges, including one count of resisting arrest with violence and three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.
The Miami Police Department redacted the exact address of the incident from the arrest report.
Authorities have described the case as a serious matter due to the age of the victim and the circumstances of the alleged assault.
Navarrete’s arrest is part of ongoing enforcement of laws protecting elderly residents and addressing violent incidents in the city.
Further details regarding the charges and any additional evidence are expected to be provided as the case moves through the judicial system.
