A stepsibling may be charged in the mysterious death of a teenage cheerleader on a Carnival Cruise ship docked in Florida.
Brevard County 18-year-old Anna Kepner was found dead by a maid, wrapped in a blanket stuffed under a bed two weeks ago on the Carnival Horizon after it arrived at the port Miami.
An emergency court filing involving a divorce case involving Kepner's stepmom show a 16-year-old stepsibling could be charged in Anna's death.
In the motion the stepmother reveals that FBI investigators informed her that "a criminal case may be initiated" against one of her minor children.
"An extremely sensitive and severe circumstance has arisen wherein the Respondent/Mother will not be able to testify at the hearing at this time," the filing states.
“Since this is an ongoing matter under the jurisdiction of law enforcement, it is up to the FBI’s Miami public affairs office to provide further details. Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest,” the statement said.
The family told law enforcement that Kepner wasn't feeling well the night before and returned to her room. When she didn't show up for breakfast the next morning, a frantic search began.
